NASA, (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) NASA’S helicopter, Ingenuity, become the first aircraft to take flight on another planet. It became the first powered and controlled flight on another planet. The test flight took place on the floor of Martian land called Jezero Crater, almost 173 million miles away from Earth.

Meanwhile, The 4-pound (1.8-kilogram) helicopter hovered 3 meters above the Martian surface, then touched back down.

The test flight took place on the floor of Martian land called Jezero Crater, almost 173 million miles away from Earth.

The flight took place at 3:30 am US eastern daylight time.

Notably, radio signals take 15 minutes and 27 seconds to cross the current gap between Earth and Mars.

NASA will receive images and video of the flight from cameras mounted on the helicopter and on the Perseverance rover, which landed on Mars touched down Martian land on 18 February.

Ingenuity is quipped with rotor blades that are four feet long and spin more rapidly than would be needed on Earth for an aircraft of its size.

Meanwhile, The flight was originally scheduled for April 11.

What is The Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity?

The Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity, is a technology demonstration to test powered flight on another world for the first time. It hitched a ride to Mars on the Perseverance rover. Once the rover reaches a suitable “helipad” location, it will release Ingenuity to perform a series of test flights over a 30-Martian-day experimental window beginning in early April.
