Six journalists from Assam received the prestigious Laadli Media & Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity 2020 (Eastern). The awards were bagged by Diganta Sarma, Rini Barman, Alakananda Sreekumari Kakoti, Chitralekha Baruah, Reetu Gogoi, and Farhana Ahmed.

Radio Journalist Reetu Gogoi received the award for the programme ‘Angana’ on Jnan Taranga 90.4 FM.

 

Diganta Sarma was awarded for the news report ‘Samajik Badha Atorai Linga Samatar Bheti Nirman’ published in Asomiya Pratidin’s Saadin.

 

Alakananda Sreekumari Kakoti, Senior Journalist of Amar Asom won the award for her feature story ‘Mukali Akashor Tolot’.

 

Journalist Rini Barman was awarded for the feature story ‘Wrapped in The Popularity of Assam’s Mekhela Sador Are Stories of Lost Diversity’.

 

Chitralekha Baruah awarded for the editorial ‘Unscripted Monologue’ in the Assam Tribune.

 

Farhana Ahmed for Farhana Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity 2020 (Eastern)

 

The Laadli Media Awards came up in March 2007 to celebrate the commendable efforts by print and electronic media to support gender-just perspectives.

The award ceremony was held online this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

75 media persons received the awards while 18 received jury appreciation citations for their work. The stories included those published in the languages of Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Oriya, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, and English, Population First, a social impact organization, said in a press release.

The winners were selected from four regions, North, East, West, and South. The categories were news story, feature, investigative story, article, editorial, op-ed, column, podcast, electronic, blog, and social media campaign, the press release added.
