Election Commission on Friday announced poll dates for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry. Assam General Assembly elections will be held in three phases, announces Election Commission.Assembly Election Dates Announced: Elections in Assam to be held on 27th March, 1st April & 6th April in 3 Phases.

 

Phase 1: Issue of notification on march 2; last date of nominations on March 9; scrutiny of nominations on March 10; last date of withdrawal of candidature on march 12, date of poll on March 27, results on May 2.

Assam (126 seats) Phase 1: March 27 Phase 2: April 1 Phase 3: April 6 Votes to be counted on May 2

This is the first major set of elections to be held in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic after the Bihar election.

Polls are to be held for 294 seats in West Bengal, 234 seats in Tamil Nadu, 140 seats in Kerala, 126 seats in Assam, and 30 seats in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Announcing the first major elections in a post-COVID world, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that the year 2021 brings hope and solidarity. He also paid a tribute to the COVID warriors and people who did extraordinary work to help the country return to normalcy.

 

A total of 824 assembly constituencies shall be going for polls during these elections. 18.68 crore electors will cast vote at 2.7 lakh polling stations in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry: CEC

2.7 lakh polling stations have been set up in the poll-bound States. Polling time has been increased by 1 hour. Door-to-door campaigning has been reduced to five persons, including the candidate, says Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora. Adequate CAPF deployment will be ensured for assembly polls; critical, vulnerable areas identified and advance teams already deployed.

 

“All poll officials will be vaccinated ahead of the election”: Chief Election Commissioner. All polling stations will be equipped with sanitizers, masks, soap, and water in addition to usual facilities such as drinking water, ramp, etc, says Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora.

Election schedule for Tamil Nadu:

The election for 234 seats in Tamil Nadu will be held in a single phase. Here’s the schedule:

-Last date of nomination: March 19
-Scrutiny of nomination: March 20
-Last date of withdrawal of candidature: March 22
-Dates of polling: April 6
-Date of counting: May 2

Election schedule for Puducherry

Elections in the Union Territory of Puducherry will be held in a single phase.

-Date of issue of gazette notification: March 12

-Last date of nomination: March 19

-Scrutiny of nomination: March 20

-Last date of withdrawal of candidature: March 22

-Dates of polling: April 6

-Date of counting: May 2

 

Bengal to see 8-phase elections. 1st phase of polling on Mar 27, second phase of polling on Apr 1, third phase of polling on Apr 6, fourth phase of polling on Apr 10, fifth phase of polling on Apr 17, sixth phase polling on Apr 22, seventh phase-Apr 26, final phase polling-Apr 29.
