The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) have formally announced a regional political party,’Assam Jatiya Parishad’,with the sole motto—’Assam first, always and ever’.District based organizations will be given importance in ‘Assam Jatiya Parishad’. The name of the new team was announced by the convener Basant Deka.
With a formal announcement during a joint press conference held here on Monday, the AASU & AJYCP leaders also made the report of the 16-member advisory panel public. The panel was constituted to chalk out a future roadmap for the AASU and the AJYCP on social, economic, education, and political issues.
New Regional Political Party’s fundamental principle will be the historic Assam Accord and the report of the Clause 6 committee constituted by the Centre to exclusively safeguard land, political, social and cultural rights of the indigenous people of the State.
The political party will contest 80-100 seats in the assembly elections in Assam due early next year, a top AASU leader said on Sunday. Though the AASU and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) will not forge any pre-poll alliance with the Congress or be part of its proposed ”Grand Alliance”, it is open for an understanding with the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi told PTI in an interview.
As per Reports, The election to the 126-member Assam assembly is likely to be held in March-April next year. The new political party, Asom Jatiya Parishad will not join hands with the nationalist and “communal” forces as that will hurt the sentiments of the indigenous people who trust AASU and AJYCP.
