An Oscars 2021 ceremony unlike any other was held on Monday morning. The 93rd Academy Award was held with no host, no audience due to Covid 19. The Oscars ceremony was live-streamed from two locations — The Dolby Theatre and Union Station — in Los Angeles. Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for his work in The Father. Nomadland also won the Best Picture award, as well as Best Actress for Frances McDormand.

 

Chloé Zhao made history on April 26. The “Nomadland” filmmaker won the best director, becoming just the second woman in the 93 years of the Academy Awards to win the award. She is the first woman of color to win it.

Meanwhile, Joining Chloe Zhao in the history-making category was Youn Yuh-jung, Best Supporting Actress for Minari.

 

Firstly, The first Oscar of the show went to Emerald Fennell who won Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman; Secondly, Best Adapted Screenplay was won by The FatherThe White Tiger, starring Priyanka Chopra, was nominated in this category.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom picked up two Oscars, with Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round winning Best International Feature Film.

Also, late Indian actor Irrfan Khan and late costume designer Bhanu Athaiya were remembered at the ‘in memorium’ segment at the 93rd Academy Awards.

Ann Roth became the oldest woman to win an Oscar. She won the Best Costume Design award for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Pete Doctor picked up his third career Oscar for Soul, Pixar’s latest animated film. Minari’s Yuh-Jung Youn became the first Korean actor to win an Oscar, a year after Parasite became the first Korean film to be honored at the Academy Awards.

Emerald Fennell became the first woman in 13 years to win the Best Original Screenplay Oscar, while Mank’s two wins put it ahead of the film it honoured, Citizen Kane.
