Ma Anand Sheela Docu-film to Premiere on April 22. Netflix on Monday returned with ‘Searching For Sheela’, an upcoming documentary about Ma Anand Sheela. She was the spokesperson of the Osho movement in the 1980s and the secretary of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (Osho). Moreover, The Docu-film features inputs from her and excerpts from interviews after she returned to India in 2019 after 34 years.

She was also the primary perpetrator of the 1984 Rajneesh bioterror attack in Oregon, US.

The trailer was unveiled by filmmaker Karan Johar. The director, who is also producing the upcoming documentary along with Netflix.

Sharing the trailer, Karan wrote, “You’ve seen her, you’ve heard her and you’ve definitely heard about her. Now she’s here to tell you her own story. #SearchingforSheela streaming from 22nd April, only on Netflix.”

 


Firstly, The nearly two-minute-long trailer of ‘Searching for Sheela’ opens with a clip of Osho saying, “People who don’t commit a crime, don’t escape like that.”

Secondly, It moves on to feature glimpses of Sheela’s return to India after nearly three decades and her interactions with the media about how her life transformed after she was accused of fraud and murder.

Executive Producer Shakun Batra adds that the film is an observation and not an “investigative piece”.

 

Who is Osho?

Bhagwan Shri Rajneesh, famously known as Osho was a professor of philosophy at Jabalpur University.

On the other hand, Osho and his commune moved to the State of Oregon in the US and bought a 64,229-acre ranch, establishing it as the city of Rajneeshpuram in May 1982.

The controversial figure Osho was deported from the US in 1985 due to being indicted with immigration fraud. Following his deportation, he returned to his Pune ashram and held his last public lecture was held in April 1989. Osho, who was fondly called Bhagwan by his followers, died at the age of 58 on 19 January 1990.

Osho was extremely critical of national icon Mahatma Gandhi for advocating socialism.

In his lecture series titled ‘From Sex to Superconsciousness’, he advocated for a freer acceptance of sex. This earned him the label of the “sex guru” by the Indian media.

In conclusion, Karan in association with Cornerstone Agency recently launched a collaborative space to promote budding talent. The new venture is called DCA. Karan is also set to direct ‘Takht’ which stars Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles.
