‘Mozart of Madras’ AR Rahman turns 54 on January 6, 2021. The singer and one of the finest music composers we have in our country today. He made his debut with the film Roja, directed by Mani Ratnam. AR Rahman is celebrating his 54th birthday today, and wishes have been pouring in for the lovable composer. Rahman won a lot of regional and national awards but bagging an Oscar for the film Slumdog Millionaire made him a celebrated music composer of India. AR Rahman has also won two Grammys, a Golden Globe, six National Film Awards, and a BAFTA Award. His work has been recognized globally and is known to be one of the most talented music directors of all time.
The musician has also been honored with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award, in 2010 by the Government of India. AR Rahman is a son of Shekhar, who worked as a band composer for Tamil and Malayalam films.
AR Rahman’s real name is Dilip Kumar, and he later changed his name to Rahman after he converted to Muslim. He was also featured in Doordarshan’s Wonder Baloon show where he got fame for playing 4 keyboards at once.
