‘Paatal Lok’ lands in legal trouble: Lawyers Guild sends Legal Notice for Casteist Slur

Amazon Prime Video’s latest series Paatal Lok is getting a whole lot of love from viewers and great reviews from critics.  The classic content of Paatal Lok is the reason of its success. Co-Produced by Anushka Sharma, is written by Sudip Sharma (who wrote Udta Punjab, NH10) and directed by Prosit Roy and Avinash Arun shows us the dreadfulness of our reality & how an ugly India is getting uglier.

Paatal lok is about a Crime-drama of Cops, criminals, police investigation, politics and power games, is a huge hit, with a fan following that is growing by the minute. The series said to be inspired by Tarun Tejpal’s book, The Story of My Assassins, though the credits don’t mention it.

Apparently Anushka Sharma,Paatal Lok’s Co-Producer is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Viren Sri Gurung, a member of the Lawyers Guild associated to the Chambers of Mr. Pranay Rai & Associates have sent a legal notice to Anushka Sharma on Monday i.e May 18 for a casteist slur that has been used in one of the scenes.

Gurung said “There is a clip wherein during an interrogation a lady police officer uses a casteist slur on a Nepali character. There wouldn’t have been any problem had only ‘Nepali’ been used. But the word that follows it is unacceptable. Since Anushka Sharma is one of the producers of the show, we have served her a notice”.

Anushka Sharma hasn’t responded yet to this legal notice and if she fails to response within the given time then Gurung and his legal team will take the matter forward with the OTT platform streaming it, Amazon Prime Video, and others involved in the series.
